Aggrieved pensioners numbering over 300, on Wednesday stormed the Gombe State Government House to demand for their pensions arrears.
The Chairman of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mohammed Abubakar, told newsmen that they have not been paid their pensions for many months.
The aggrieved pensioners cause a vehicular traffic in the area as they blocked the main entrance of the state government house.
Abubakar said that aside several months of not being paid their pension, that his members were also aggrieved because “more than 700 local government retirees have not been enrolled into the monthly pension after over two years of retirement.”
Efforts by security agents to stop the protesters from insisting on getting inside the government house to see the state governor failed.
After the struggle between them and the security agents, the leaders of the council succeeded in having a meeting with the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, on behalf of the state governor who was said to be out of the state.
