Over 52 non-formal learning centers have been established in Gombi, Adamawa State, to provide education for out-of-school children and young divorcees.

Mr. Godwin Kure Lucky, UNICEF’s focal person, emphasized that the centers create a welcoming and engaging environment, attracting many children, including married and divorced young women.
Facilitator Mrs. Shelena Daniels noted that the centers make learning accessible and enjoyable, offering a nine-month fast-track program to prepare students for adult education.
Community sensitization efforts have boosted attendance, with Alhaji Isa Mohammed of the School-Based Management Committee praising UNICEF for reducing crime through education. UNICEF Education Specialist Mr. Abdulrahman Ibrahim highlighted the program’s role in bridging gaps in both formal and non-formal education, enabling learners to progress like their peers in regular schools.

Representing the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Umar Pella, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed Umar commended UNICEF and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for their efforts to enhance early childhood, formal, and non-formal education.

The initiative reflects a commitment to inclusive education, offering hope and opportunities to marginalized groups in Adamawa State.
