Bandits have abducted Zahra Umar, a student of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, (UDUTH) Sokoto State.
She was abducted alongside other others along Sokoto- Shinkarfi road.
A family friend of the student, Abdul-Rahman Geto, confirmed the incident.
He said the abductors contacted her family and demanded for N30m ransom but later reduced it to N3 million after negotiations.
“This young girl Zahra was abducted by bandits along Sokoto – Shinkafi road on Saturday. She’s a student of UDUTH, Sokoto.
“On the same Saturday, they asked for a N30 million ransom, but yesterday after long period of negotiation, they settled at N3 million. I pray that she should regain her freedom as soon as possible”, he said.
“There is panic among the university students, any of us can fall victim to these attacks but we still have to be at our duty posts. The government should provide adequate security for us,” a student lamented.
