Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, emphasized that the government needs to generate revenue to provide essential services to Nigerians. Speaking at the Abuja Business and Investment Summit, Wike stressed that the notion that the government doesn’t need money is misguided. He pointed out that the government can’t continue to invest billions of naira and land in partnerships that don’t guarantee returns.
Wike’s statement comes on the heels of the Federal Government’s plan to impose a 25% tax rate on individuals earning ₦100 million or more monthly. He highlighted the importance of taxation, saying it’s crucial for the government to collect revenue to fund public services.
As the former Governor of Rivers State, Wike understands the significance of revenue generation for public services. His experience in governance has equipped him to navigate the complexities of public-private partnerships.
