The leadership of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has urged the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, to consider the call for his resignation as a call to service and give Nigeria a better future in its democratic process.

The NYCN observed that the resignation or stepping down of Dr Iyorchia Ayu as the National chairman of PDP would give the party in the face of the equity and fairness when a Southerner emerges as the leader of the party.

Isah Abubakar, National President of NYCN, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, said, “We plead with Ayu to understand the concept of justice and equity, as well; the spirit of oneness, to be patriotic enough to safe the party from loosing the 2023 general elections and resign, Nigerian and the entire country will be grateful if Ayu consider resignation.”

The youths added, “The PDP is know as a National party but with the emergency of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer in the 2023 and continuity of Dr Iyorchia Ayu chairmanship, alot of people will see the party as a regional political party, this is a bad reputation for the party and it is unacceptable to all party faithful.”

It explained that it important to see an individual play a role to seeing to the end of miss-governance bring opon this Nation by the APC-led administration and do every thing humanly possible to resist the party coming back and called on Dr Ayu to please be considerate of the happening in the country and give a southerner a chance to help lead the party to victory.

“If this is the only thing that will maintain peace and grant the party victory in the elections, Dr Ayu should do so for the victory of the party and interest of all Nigerians,” the statement pleaded.
