The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recorded a sweeping victory in the Adamawa State Local Government Elections, securing chairmanship seats across all 20 local government areas of the state in a result that reinforces the party’s longstanding political dominance at the grassroots level.
The election, conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), was widely described by stakeholders as peaceful, transparent, and credible, with voting taking place across the state amid a calm atmosphere.
The outcome sparked celebrations among PDP supporters and party faithful, who viewed the victory as a strong movement by PDP in the state and the party’s developmental agenda.
Reacting to the results, the state chairman of the PDP, Engr. Belmont Dogo, commended ADSIEC for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and orderly election that reflected the true wishes of the electorate.
Dogo praised the electoral commission for ensuring a level playing field for all participating political parties and candidates, noting that the successful conduct of the polls further strengthens democratic governance and public confidence in the electoral process.
According to him, the emergence of duly elected local government chairmen across the state will deepen grassroots development and bring governance closer to the people.
He expressed confidence that the newly elected council chairmen would work in close synergy with Governor Fintiri’s administration to accelerate development projects, improve service delivery, and consolidate the gains of democracy recorded under the governor’s leadership.
”Today’s outcome is a victory for democracy and the people of Adamawa State. I commend ADSIEC for conducting a peaceful, free, and fair election. The newly elected local government chairmen have a responsibility to complement the developmental strides of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every community,” Dogo stated.
He added that the overwhelming support received by the PDP at the polls demonstrates the confidence reposed in the party by the electorate and serves as a validation of Governor Fintiri’s leadership and achievements across various sectors.
Also reacting to the outcome, PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, Maurice Vunobolki, congratulated the newly elected council chairmen and described the victory as a reflection of the PDP’s deep-rooted acceptance among the people of Adamawa State.
According to him, Adamawa has remained a stronghold of the PDP since the return of democratic rule in 1999, noting that the party’s influence and popularity have continued to endure over the years.
”Adamawa State has remained a PDP state from the inception of the party in 1999 until today. The PDP remains deeply rooted among the people because of its history, structure, and commitment to democratic governance,” he said.
Vunobolki described the PDP as one of Africa’s largest political parties, noting that many prominent political figures in Nigeria either belong to or have at one time been associated with the party.
He attributed the party’s victory to its strong grassroots presence and active engagement with voters throughout the campaign period.
”The PDP went to the people. We campaigned across communities and presented our message directly to the electorate. That connection with the people continues to make the difference,” he said.
The PDP chieftain further maintained that the outcome of the local government elections reflects the political realities in Adamawa State and expressed confidence that future elections would further demonstrate the party’s strength.
He called on the newly elected council chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate by working tirelessly for the development of their respective local government areas and supporting the broader development agenda of the state government.
Vunobolki also urged residents of Adamawa State to continue supporting their elected leaders to ensure sustained progress, peace, and prosperity across the state.
He believe the local government elections will usher in a new phase of grassroots governance, with the incoming chairmen expected to play a critical role in community development, strengthening local institutions, and supporting the implementation of government policies at the grassroots level.
ADSIEC however had earlier extended the Numan Local Government area election because of late arrival of sensitive materials and vowed to conduct same on Monday (Today) in an transparent, free and fair manner.
With celebrations continuing in several parts of the state, attention is now expected to shift to the inauguration of the newly elected council officials and the task of translating electoral victory into meaningful development and improved service delivery for the people of Adamawa State.
