PDP Women Reject Taraba Former Commissioner as Party's Women Leader

By Charles Akpeji, Jalingo

Women members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected the selection of former Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Lois Emmanuel, as the party’s Women Leader.

The decision, made during the state Congress at the Jolly Nyame stadium yesterday, sparked discussions within the party, particularly among women.

Chanting songs of rejection, some women who spoke to the media expressed their disapproval, citing Lois’s inaccessibility as the reason. Despite her swearing-in as Women Leader, many women vowed to distance themselves from her and urged Governor Agbu Kefas to replace her with a more suitable candidate.

The newly elected state chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, promised to carry all members along and build a party that will support the governor in developing the state. However, the women argued that the selection of the Women Leader was against their wishes, despite the Congress being described as free and fair by national headquarters representatives.

All elected executive members ran unopposed. The protesting women have vowed to take legitimate measures to ensure Lois’s removal as Women Leader. Governor Kefas congratulated the newly elected executives and promised to work closely with them, urging the protesting women to exercise patience and promising to address their demands soon.
