…..State police will not work in Taraba, Governor Darius will hijack security if allow to create state own police
The Taraba State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) is brewing under a tense leadership tussle resulting in having a factional group as Taraba State University Basic Education board.
The leadership crisis started when NUT members at Donga had their election which was adjudged peaceful having winners emerged under the chairmanship of Comrade Nathan Solomon.
Solomon in an interview with TG NEWS narrated the ordeals of having a parallel faction believed to be encouraged by the state government under the leadership of Arch Ishaku Darius is not in the best interest of the state and the union.
Solomon narrated that the election which was held in Donga on 23rd and 24th November went peaceful and winners emerged under harmonious conditions by all members.
But to their dismay, after all, winners were given a go-ahead to operate as NUT’s new leaders in the state, shortly after that they discovered a new leadership under Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) being inaugurated.
He worried over the state government interference on Union matters to the extent of sealing up the NUT Secretariat and stationed up police officers on a twenty-four hours vigilance.
“We are having a parallel Union in the state, as I speak to you the Secretariat of NUT this morning as we visited to do our normal handing over is under locks and keys, sealed with police officers on a twenty-four hours vigilance.
” We understand that there is another so-called association under the leadership of my opponent who lost in the last election parading himself as the new Union leader and inaugurated by board chairman state universal Education of the state, given them operational vehicles to operate.
“I’m calling on all NUT members to calm down as the union can’t be caged down by a mere creation of state interest group,” Nathan said
He wondered how his opponent who lost in the NUT election, Comrade Asoushi Bulus is now the new Chairman of the parallel body. According to him the act supported by the state government is capable of destroying the integrity of the Governor who suppose to be a role model leader to the people of Taraba state.
The interference of the state government of Taraba over the NUT matter, a public affairs analyst in the State, Andefiki Thomas Adams said; “this has clearly shown how Taraba government will hijack state police and any security agencies owned by the state if he is allowed to established state police.”
“What is the interest of Taraba state government in all these? This is how you will know a government is failing and is losing relevance. When a government does not have the wherewithal, the ability and the know how to secure the lives and properties of its citizens. When jobs and wealth creation through revive policies are not given by a government that promised our people heaven on earth during campaigns periods. But for a whole government to delved into matters that are not in the generality interest of the people, it’s a huge sign that the government is failing and if care is not taken they will continue to fail.
” Nothing good is happening to the people of Taraba, is is at the NUT matter that our own Governor will show muscles to prove a point, to me he is stooping law in interfering in the NUT unwarranted crisis while other sectors are not working because of his anti people deliberate policies?
” The creation of TSUBEB leadership should border the entire people of Taraba state. These are the same teachers whose conditions of service are not reviewed or improved, their salaries are rarely paid and education entirely in Taraba is on comatose condition. It worries me that the people of Taraba are being mute watching how the government of the day is prioritizing primordial issues that have nothing to do with the needs of the citizens and a whole lot of issues bedeviling the state .
“Using police to take over NUT Secretariat has sent a serious notice to Nigerian Government that giving Governors Like Darius the license to create state police we will end up having divergence insecurity problems in multi-facet dimensions than we are seeing.
” They will hijack the security unit, they will do and undo. At will, they will use it as their instrument of war. As one can see what is happening in the state nothing is virtually working. What is going on well in the state is their companies, their places of business. But for government agencies, I doubt it much if the system is still working. Is it under this kind of situation we will give a Governor the license to own state police? We will all be doomed for prison. Andefiki said
The TSUBEB leadership when interviewed by media men maintains that NUT is no more relevant in Taraba state because of the leadership is not respecting the state government.
The leadership under Bulus took a firm decision and has disassociated itself from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) an umbrella body that pilots the affairs of Primary School Teachers across the Country.
The Executive Chairman, TSUBEB in Taraba State, Dr. Yakubu Agbaizo who inaugurated the new leadership disclosed the new Officials of the Association of Basic Education Teachers in the State an Event held last Friday at the Banquet Hall of Taraba Motel, Jalingo, Agbaizo said TSUBEB has had a cordial working relationship with NUT, especially at the National level by supporting them to succeed.
He further disclosed that during its partnership with NUT, TSUBEB never at any time, failed to pay its Dues.
“To my dismay, NUT failed to reciprocate the gesture but went ahead to disrespect the Board and Teachers from Taraba”,
“We gave them every necessary support, particularly at the National level but the way they related to us as second class citizens, using unguided utterances at our Leaders and Teachers”, he said.
TSUBEB Chairman, who described Ishaku as a Governor that has much regard for Taraba Teachers pledged partnership with the new Leadership of Association of Basic Education Teachers in the State.
He charged them to participate in mobilizing the Teachers in doing the right thing, stressing that situations, where Teachers will gather under a tree, buying and selling, neglecting their duty posts, will not be tolerated.
In an acceptance speech, the pioneer Chairman, Association of Basic Education Teachers in Taraba State, Comrade Asoushi lauded Governor Ishaku for investing so much in the Sector of Education in the State.
Comrade Asoushi added that Governor Ishaku approved the employment of Rescue Teachers, initiated the construction and renovation of Schools in the 16 LGAs of the State, and engaged in prompt payment of Teachers Salaries, among others.
While pledging to justify the confidence reposed on him and his colleagues, the Chairman opined that he will work hand in hand with the Governor’s administration to ensure peace and unity and to dialogue with Government to overcome the numerous challenges faced by both Primary and Secondary School Teachers in the State.
