Pene Da Bwatiye Decries Crisis Between Chobbo/Bwatiye of Bachama Kingdom

The Pene Da Bwatiye Development Association Worldwide (BDA) has issued a heartfelt statement expressing deep sorrow and grave concern over a recent violent crisis between the Chobbo community and some Bwatiye communities in the Bachama Kingdom. The association, in a press release dated July 12, 2025, condemned the violence as a devastating blow to the centuries-old bonds of kinship and mutual prosperity that have long defined the region.

For generations, the Chobbo and Bwatiye have lived as brothers and sisters, united by shared history and inter-community marriages, forming the bedrock of peace in Bachama Kingdom.

However, the association laments that this affinity has been eroded, replaced by mistrust and acrimony, culminating in violent clashes over farmlands. The crisis has left a trail of destruction, including loss of life, numerous injuries, and widespread arson that has looted and burned homes, displacing many.

The BDA unreservedly condemned the senseless bloodshed, calling it a violation of ancestral bonds and shared humanity. The association extended condolences to the bereaved and sympathies to the injured and displaced.

It also praised the decisive leadership of Adamawa State Governor, Right Honourable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for imposing a 24-hour curfew that helped stall the escalating violence, describing it as a vital first step toward restoring calm.

While acknowledging the curfew’s role in ensuring immediate stability, the BDA called for concrete measures to achieve lasting peace.

It urged the state government to establish a swift, impartial, and high-powered commission of inquiry to investigate the crisis’s causes, identify perpetrators of violence, killings, arson, and looting, and recommend actionable steps to prevent recurrence. The association also demanded the apprehension and prosecution of all responsible parties.

The statement emphasized the need for continued security presence to prevent further violence and implored community leaders, elders, government, and traditional institutions to initiate a genuine, inclusive peace and reconciliation process.

This, it said, must address root causes of mistrust and rebuild unity based on the region’s historical affinity.
