The Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Hon. Plangji Cishak, has assured all residents of the state that under his watch, the commission will conduct a free and credible local government election on October 9, 2024, devoid of controversy and rancor.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Tamarald Event Centre, Jos, Nigeria, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, the chairman assured all contestants of a level playing field. He recalled that in the past, election results were announced while voting was ongoing.

Hon. Cishak stated that under his watch, the state electoral commission has developed a digital application called the Voter Verification System (VVS). This system ensures a seamless and transparent process, noting that Plateau State, with its history of electoral violence, especially at the third tier of government, is determined to overcome.
He further urged all political actors to eschew violence and follow dialogue, emphasizing that the present PLASIEC, under his leadership, aims to set a pace in electoral integrity that will be emulated nationwide.

At the event, various stakeholders, including political party representatives, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the media, attended. Different departments of PLASIEC presented scorecard of their readiness for the upcoming polls as well as Security Agencies who gave their assurance of neutrality in the democratic process.
The Plateau State local government elections will hold in the 17 local government Councils of the State on 9 October 2024.
