The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, swore in 15 elected executive council chairmen, having declared winners of the just-concluded local government elections held in the state on Wednesday. The election results of Pankshin and Langtang North local government areas were being awaited by the state electoral commission, PLASIEC, as at the time of this report.
The election was swept by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); however, an NNPP councillorship candidate won in Jos North, and two APC candidates won in Mangu. There will be two re-run elections for councillorship seats in Langtang South and one in Bassa local government areas.
Recall that the Plateau local government polls began on Wednesday morning, lasted till evening, with a two-hour extension following a late turnout of voters.

While swearing in the 15 council chairmen whose results were duly announced by the Chairman, Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak, the governor charged the newly elected council chairmen to be up and doing, prudent, accountable, and transparent in their dealings.
Among the council chairmen who took the oath of office was Hon. Dr. Kemi Nicholas Nshe of Shendam, who scored 34,566 votes. The council chairman of Kanam, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, was said to have scored the highest votes, with 71,946 votes declared so far, while his Jos East counterpart, Macus Useni Nyam, with the slowest votes, scored 12,765 votes.
The swearing-in ceremony was graced by prominent figures on the Plateau, led by former Governor Jonah David Jang, who became a Senator representing Plateau Northern Senatorial District after leaving office as governor for two terms.
