Plateau State University Welcomes New Students with Orientation Program

Plateau State University in Bokkos recently hosted an orientation event for its new students in the Mass Communication department. The goal of this program was to help students understand what they need to succeed in their studies. Held in the School of Social Sciences Auditorium at 10:30 AM, the event brought together university officials, teachers, and support staff, all eager to assist students as they start their academic journeys.

The main purpose of the orientation was to familiarize students with the university’s rules, academic structure, and what is expected of them. Notable attendees included the university’s Registrar, Mr. Ayuba F. Yakubu; the Director of Linkages, Associate Professor Dewan Danjuma; and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Dashol Usman Ishaya, along with other department leaders.

In his speech, Associate Professor Andrew Dewan encouraged students to work hard and stay committed, reminding them that their success would bring pride to their families and the university. Mr. Ayuba F. Yakubu, the Registrar, emphasized the importance of discipline and adhering to the university’s values.

Associate Professor Priscilla Marcus talked about the need for students to conduct themselves well and warned them about the serious consequences of cheating in exams. She stressed that graduates should be role models in both character and knowledge. Mr. Lohnan Moses, the Examination Officer, provided helpful tips on how students can track their academic progress and encouraged them to aim for high grades.

Mr. Bernard Diesuk, a lecturer in the department, introduced the students to their level coordinators, who will offer academic support throughout their time at the university. Representatives from different university services, such as IT, the Library, the School Clinic, Students’ Affairs, and the Security Unit, shared information on how students can make the most of the resources available to them.

After the orientation, David, one of the new students, shared his excitement about the event. He found the experience informative and felt it helped him understand how to navigate university life more effectively.

Overall, the orientation was a success, leaving students motivated and better prepared for their studies at Plateau State University in Bokkos. With strong support from faculty and staff, the new students now have a great foundation to thrive during their university experience.
