The Plateau State Government, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, showcased its remarkable achievements over the past two years during a ministerial briefing at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos.
Commissioners for Environment, Works, Youth and Sports, and Housing presented detailed reports, highlighting strides in infrastructure, climate resilience, youth empowerment, and urban development, underscoring the administration’s commitment to transparency and sustainable progress.
Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom, Commissioner for Environment, Climate Change and Mineral Development, outlined bold initiatives to combat erosion, enhance water access, and promote climate resilience. Over 2,000 households now benefit from water harvesting systems, while flood-prone areas are undergoing targeted interventions, with erosion control projects set for completion by October.
In partnership with the World Bank-backed ACReSAL and the European International Bank, the ministry is fortifying climate resilience. A 17.1km perimeter fence around Jos Wildlife Park is also under construction to boost conservation and curb illegal mining. Gwom emphasized transparency, promising to share detailed progress reports and pictorial evidence with the public.

Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven, revealed that 49 inherited road projects are actively progressing, with 17 prioritized for completion in communities like Jengre and Karampana. Key urban roads, including Bukuru Road and Yelwa Club Junction, are being upgraded to ease traffic and enhance mobility.
Laven noted that improved infrastructure is attracting new residents to Jos, increasing housing demand. He urged citizens to monitor local projects and reaffirmed the government’s focus on completing existing initiatives to deliver lasting solutions.
Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, highlighted transformative youth programs, including global sports exposure and economic opportunities. Plateau athletes have competed in Morocco and Egypt, with upgrades ongoing at Rwang Pam Stadium. Support for feeder teams like Platy Jet has led to international contracts for some players, while retired athletes are being trained as coaches.
