A coalition of People Living With Disabilities (PLWDA) Adamawa State chapter have called on Nigerians to conduct themselves in peaceful manner in the gubernatorial, State House of Assembly and the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Area Councils elections holding tomorrow.
The group said if there is violence in any election, children, women and people living with disabilities will be the largest casualties.
Speaking at the premises of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Yola, during a peaceful really, the group’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bitrus Richard, a visually impaired who read the statement, also called on Nigerians to shun hate-speech.
“We the People Living With Disabilities are against election violence, hate speeches and we want the votes to count,” Richard said while advising the people to shun religious sentiment and tribalism in the elections.
“While we condemned ballot box snatching and other electoral violence, most of these issues are caused by poverty,” Richard said while urging the people to always show love.
“We must learn to show love and not engaged in hate speeches. We must work against the spread of fake news. The electoral umpire must ensure it conduct free and fair election not considering who is involve,” the group advised.
“Nigerians must stay away from politics of religion and we must embrace peace because it is children, women and people living with disability that will suffer most if there is violence. That is why we are calling for a peaceful elections,” the group added.
