Police Arrest Two Suspects for Abducting Minor in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two young men suspected of kidnapping a four-year-old boy in Numan Local Government Area and demanding a ransom of ₦800,000 for his release.

The suspects, identified as Sadiq Ali, 19, and Shitu Umar, 23, both residents of Lafiya in neighbouring Lamurde Local Government Area, were apprehended following a swift investigation by operatives attached to the Numan Division.

According to a press statement issued on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the incident began on March 1, 2026, when the victim, Ramadan Umar, went out to play near his home in Ngballang village, Numan LGA, but failed to return.

His father, Umar Ibrahim, reported the disappearance at the Numan Police Station the following day, March 2, 2026. Initial searches by the family yielded no results.

Days later, the father received a call from an unknown number informing him that his son had been abducted and demanding ₦800,000 as ransom for the child’s safe return.

Police operatives launched an immediate investigation, which led to the arrest of the two suspects. During interrogation, both reportedly confessed voluntarily to their involvement in what the command described as an organised crime.

The case has now been transferred to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit for discreet further investigation and necessary legal action.

The Adamawa State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state. Spokesperson SP Nguroje urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid leaving children unsupervised, and report any suspicious activities or movements promptly to the nearest police station or through emergency lines.

This arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies in Adamawa to combat rising cases of kidnapping and child abduction in parts of the North-East region. Authorities have assured that the rescued child (implied by the arrests and confession) is safe, though specifics on the boy’s current status or release were not detailed in the statement.

The command thanked members of the public for their cooperation and encouraged continued support in providing credible information to aid ongoing operations against criminal elements.
