Police Discover Organ-Harvesting Dungeon in Imo State; Over 100 Mutilated, Decaying Bodies Found

In a chilling discovery that has sent shockwaves through Imo State, Nigerian police, in collaboration with local health officials, have uncovered an unregistered mortuary in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area (LGA) containing over 100 decomposed and mutilated bodies, raising suspicions of an organ-harvesting operation.

The grim find was detailed in a nearly nine-minute video released by local authorities on Saturday, December 6, 2025, amid growing public outrage and calls for a thorough investigation.

The site, described as a “health hazard” by Imo State Health Commissioner Chioma Egu and Chief Pathologist Dr. Ibeaja Okechukwu, was raided following tip-offs about suspicious activities.

The video in circulation, shows officials in protective gear navigating the overcrowded, unsanitary facility, where the bodies—some severely disfigured—were found in advanced stages of decay.

Preliminary assessments suggest the mortuary, operated by a yet-to-be-identified individual, may have been used for illegal organ harvesting, a practice linked to underground criminal networks.

Imo State Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye confirmed the discovery, stating, “What we found goes beyond negligence; it points to a deliberate and sinister operation.

Forensic teams are currently documenting evidence, and we are working to identify those responsible.” The police have declared a hotelier, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, wanted in connection with the case, following a separate raid on a linked commercial morgue in Ngor Okpala LGA where similar mutilated corpses were found.

The discovery comes at a sensitive time, just three days after the Imo State Police Command vehemently denied allegations that its anti-kidnapping unit, known as “Tiger Base,” was involved in organ trafficking, torture, and extrajudicial killings.

Residents and activists had dubbed the unit a “slaughterhouse,” accusing it of human rights abuses. The police had invited public inspections to counter these claims, but the latest find has fueled speculation of a cover-up, with many on social media suggesting the raid was timed to deflect attention from Tiger Base.

In response, the Imo State government has ordered the immediate closure of the implicated facilities and authorized mass burials to address the public health risk.

However, authorities have assured that investigations will continue, with forensic experts securing evidence to trace the network behind the operation. Imo State Commissioner of Police Danjuma emphasized, “We will leave no stone unturned to bring all accomplices to justice.”
