Police Foil Kidnapping Crisis in Kaduna: 17 Victims Rescued, 21 Rifles Seized in Daring Operations

In a remarkable display of law enforcement efficacy, operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims and seized 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles during a series of coordinated operations this week.

The victims, who had been abducted on March 3, 2025, in Sarkin Pawa, Niger State, were liberated on April 9, thanks to the efforts of the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit in collaboration with the office of the National Security Adviser.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi announced the successful rescue during a press briefing, highlighting the operation’s reliance on a non-kinetic approach, which underscores the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s commitment to intelligence-led policing.

In a significant development, all rescued individuals have been taken to the police clinic in Kaduna for medical evaluations and have been confirmed to be in stable health.

Additionally, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit’s proactive intelligence gathering led to the interception of a suspected gun runner at Kawo Motor Park in Kaduna North Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jamilu Suleiman, was found transporting 21 concealed AK-47 rifles in a vehicle.

He is currently in custody, where he has reportedly confessed to being tasked by an unidentified union member to deliver the firearms to a recipient in Kaduna.

The successful operations reflect the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the pervasive security challenges in the region. Police spokesperson Adejobi emphasized that these actions are part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety and restore confidence in law enforcement in Nigeria.
