In a dramatic early-morning showdown, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully foiled a robbery attempt in Giri Village, behind the University of Abuja Staff Quarters, leaving one suspected robber dead.
The incident unfolded around 3:20 a.m. when a gang of armed robbers stormed the quiet community, likely targeting unsuspecting residents. However, their plans were swiftly disrupted by the rapid response of the Tungan Maje Division’s patrol teams, who teamed up with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and local vigilantes. What followed was a fierce gun battle as the security forces confronted the hoodlums head-on.
During the intense exchange of gunfire, one suspect was critically wounded. He was rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death. The remaining robbers fled the scene, evading capture for now. Police recovered a POS machine, four mobile phones, and a cutlass from the crime scene, offering clues to the gang’s operations.
