In an effort to distance and disassociate themselves of all kinds of killings in the name of religion happening across the country, the Adamawa Muslim and Christian youths met and pray to God for mercy that will end the ongoing violence across the country under the watch of political leaders.
The two Youth Christian bodies jointly signed a Press statement describing the ongoing killings as a shameful thing to Nigerians for allowing themselves to be guile of this evil.
While condemning the Jos attacks,the Youth in their statement said it is Shameful enough to understand that the killings are not PDP versus APC or APC versus PDP but a rising tension of crises across the nation, and the ricocheting spade of killings being perpetrated by Nigerians is against Nigerians and to the detriment of Nigeria as a nation.
They said the issue is a wake-up call to all Muslims and Christians across the nation to rise and salvage this nation from genocide and annihilation considering the fact that the political class in spite of their differences and distinct political ideologies are so united in the pursuit of their agenda and material benefits.
They worried that the religious institution in this country has become the cesspit of violence, genocide and crime against humanity, Whether the violence is politically motivated or not and the religious bodies have been indicted and disparaged beyond measure.
Rev Gabriel Ldutsi Shallomobol, YOWICAN Chairman, Adamawa State Chapter called on youths in the state to have a good sense of direction to fulfil their destiny.
Our leaders made better use of their time when they were youths and they enjoyed free education and sponsorship, to make them what they are, today they have turned against the nation to bring it to nothingness due to selfishness and materialism.
“We are exterminating ourselves by ourselves, we are endangering the future of our children and the generation to come, for how long will we continue in this? The people in Jos have divided their communities into Christians and muslims, markets have been divided between Christians and Muslims as well as schools, farms and even graveyards. What is it that we are trying to promote for crying out loud? Why are we doing this to ourselves and why are we doing this to humanity? We plan evil and lay ambush against our fellow man, all in the name of what, for crying out loud? ” Gabriel asked
Gabriel asked that: ” today schools are shutdown in Jos because man has become a hunter of his fellow man, for how long will we go on with this barbarism and inhumanity? If cats and dogs have learnt to live together in our homes as pets, why can’t we learn to live in peace with our fellow man?”
“We the Adamawa State Youths are determined to make the difference in our State and we are ready to expose any plan or plot to ruin our peace with one another. If any Christian community is planning violence against Muslims in this State and it gets to our ears, we will expose such plans to our fellow Loving Muslim brothers and to the necessary authorities for necessary action, and we want our Muslim brothers to do the same to us, together we will build a formidable Adamawa State. In this State, there is zero tolerance to violence and bloodshed.
“YOWICAN is urging all Christian Youths in the state never to engage in any violence, and never to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence by the political class. The Nigerian leaders should know that our youths are more united than ever, more patriotic and nationalistic than they ever imagine.” Gabriel said
Leader of the Muslim Youth council, Abdullahi Hamman said the core reason of their coming together is to distant themselves from every act of violence and to advice the good people of Adamawa State not to associate themselves with the evil that is being perpetrated in Jos and other parts of the country in the name of religious violence.
“We the Adamawa State Youths, Christians and Muslims, stand to say, that there is no violence that can be said to be religious. All violence are immoral, ungodly and thus unreligious. Let’s embrace one another, Muslims and Christians, lets protect our places of worships, less disabused ourselves from hatred of our fellow man because of religious disparity.
“The Prophet Mohammed (Peace be on Him) has maintained a cordial relationship with Christians wherever he goes, and in the holy book he enjoins all Muslims to love, care and protect Christians wherever they find themselves.
“Muslims and Christians are like brothers and sisters, fighting and killing one another demonstrate the ignorance of our core religious values. Any Christian that harbors hatred against a Muslim because of his religion, has derailed from the teachings of Christ and such Christian is in danger of hell.
“We urge the Muslim Ummahs and the Christian religious bodies in the state to come together as one, as God’s creatures and exemplify peace in the nation. If Nigeria as a nation has failed, if the religious institution has derailed, let Adamawa State inter religious body shine the light, lets demonstrate to the world that Christians and Muslims are actually brothers and sisters.” Said Hamman
The two leaders while calling on President of the nation, Mr Muhammadu Buhari and the executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri to bring religious and traditional leaders together to device a way forward for peace to reign in their state and the nation at large, they advised that:
“The fight against poverty in Nigeria should be intensified in the rural areas, and joblessness should not be condole and tolerated in the nation.
“Our teaming youths should be engaged in workshops and skills acquisition centers with the purpose of triggering industrialization and revolution.
“The sharp gaps between the poor and the rich, the haves and the have nots, the bourgeoisies and the proletariats in this nation must be narrowed at all cost, in other to promote equality.
“Our laws and legislation must favor both Christians and muslims, and all tribes cut across the nation. The majority must not be a tribe, the majority must not be a religion, the majority must not be the strong or the powerful, the majority in this country must be the people and the people alone.
“Wealth in this nation is distributed with bias, it is unfortunate that we distribute wealth to tribe, religion and class and lopsided distribution of wealth is a major contribution of instability in our nation.
“We urged all our elders and parents in the bush, who are exterminating the lives of our parents, brothers and sisters in the name of Terrorism, banditry and kidnapping to lay down their arms so we can device a way out for a new Nigeria.
“Violence can never guarantee a prosperous society, peace is the key to a prosperous and fruitful nation, let’s all work together for peace.”
