Barrister Mustapha Tahir, Dan Jarman Adamawa, described polo as a royal game that embodies dignity and pride for the people during the 2024 Federation tournament in Yola. Tahir, a traditional title holder of the Lamido of Adamawa Emirate council, praised Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for using polo to unite people from all walks of life, promoting peaceful coexistence.


According to Tahir, Fintiri’s “Fresh Air” slogan represents an atmosphere of peace, development, and intellectual growth, which he has successfully implemented through his urban and rural renewal initiatives. The Governor’s cup, sponsored in honor of Fintiri, aims to showcase Adamawa’s rapid transformation in terms of physical infrastructure and social well-being.
The competition at the Yola Polo Field drew prominent attendees, including the Lamido Adamawa, represented by Kaura Adamawa, Aliyu Mustapha Barkindo, the Emir of Mubi, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Isah Ahmadu, and Gangwari Ganye, HRH Adamu Sanda.
Other notable attendees included Governor Fintiri’s representative, Dr. Edgar Amos, State Commissioner of Water Resources Audu Ayuba Tanko, and American University of Nigeria President Mr. DeWayne Frazier.
Tahir also shared his thoughts on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, calling it a success story in the making
Tahir commended Lamido Mustapha for his patronage of polo in Yola, encouraging Adamawa citizens, especially youth, to embrace the game. He praised Lamido’s leadership, describing him as a father figure to all Adamawa people, regardless of religion, tribe, or political affiliation.
Tahir also shared his thoughts on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, calling it a success story in the making. While acknowledging the current stringent policies, he urged Nigerians to be patient, as the restoration of past damages will take time.

The tournament concluded with Malcomines emerging victorious, defeating Abdulrahaman Haske and Williams with a 3-2 score.
