Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that electricity will be restored to Northern Nigeria within the next 72 hours. This comes after a significant power outage affected the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central Nigeria on October 22, following the tripping of the 330-kilovolt Ugwaji-Apir double circuit transmission lines.
According to Adelabu, the temporary solution involves supplying power through the Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line, which can cover about 80% of the affected states.
The Minister assured that efforts are underway to access and repair the damaged grid, with the help of security agencies. President Bola Tinubu has also directed the military to provide security for workers repairing the power lines, which were vandalized by insurgents.
Adelabu stated that power will be restored to the North in two to three days using the temporary solution, and within 14 days, the repairs will be completed, and power will be fully restored to the North.

The Minister’s announcement brings relief to the affected regions, which have been experiencing recurring grid collapses. The swift response from the government and security agencies is expected to mitigate the impact of the power outage on residents and businesses.
