PRAMBE ATTACK: ADAMAWA ASSEMBLY ADOPTS 6 POINT RESOLUTIONS TO END CLASHES

As part of effort to curtail clashes between farmers and hersmen in some parts of the state, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has adopted about 6 point resolutions to proffer a lasting solution on the clashes in some parts of state.

Parts of the resolutions adopted include: urging on the state government to constitute peace committee with a mandate to reach out to such communities, deploy security agencies to Prambe, in Song Local Government Area and other flash points, calling on the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA) to reach out to Prambe with relief materials with immediate effect.

Other resolutions include calling on the Transition Committee Chairmen of Song and Shelleng LGCs respectively to summon security meeting and deliberate the issue with a view to ending such attacks, and for the state government to organise security summit involving all key players, and that every tribe in the state should form part and parcel of the summit, as well as appealing on the government to float a bill primarily to modify the activities of vigilante groups and neighborhood associations across the state.

The adoption of these resolutions followed a matter of urgent public importance brought before the resumed plenary session by the member representing Song Constituency, Hon. Simon Isa.

Earlier, Hon. Simon, informed the house that there was an attack on Prambe, a community in his constituency in which lives were lost, saying it took quick intervention by Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Secretary of PDP, Abdullahi Adamu Prambe, and other stakeholders in his constituency to avert the escalation of the attack.

Hon. Simon, told his colleagues that even though the situation is calmed, there is the need for government and its agencies to come to aid of the victims with relief materials to cushion the effects of hardship faced by his constituents.

According to him, the worst hit in the attack were women and children, lamenting that the inhabitants of the community had fled to neighbouring villages and now are afraid to return to their houses for the fear of possible attack.

He prayed the house to impress on the state government to set up peace committee which comprises of all stakeholders, deploy security agencies in the community and emergency management agencies to provide relief materials for the people.

Other Lawmakers including Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak(Verde), Hon. Kate Raymond(Demsa), Hon.Abubakar Is a(Shelleng), Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri(Jada/Mbulo), Umar Nashio Gubi(Nassarawo Binyeri) among others commended Hon. Simon Isa, for bringing the matter before the house.

The members sympathised with Yungur community over the attack on Prambe, appealing on the government to put in place measures that would stem the tide of clashes in the communities in the state, appreciating the Governor for his effort in addressing the insecurity challenges in the state.

After contributions from the members, the Speaker, Rt. Hon.Aminu Iya Abbas, who presided over the today’s plenary session, directed the clerk of the house to communicate all the resolutions of the lawmakers to the executive arm for further action.
