The Nigerian Presidency has firmly dismissed circulating rumours alleging that a staff member from the Aso Rock Villa kitchen was arrested for attempting to poison President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In an official statement released today, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the claims as completely false and urged the public to disregard them.
“No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu. Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by this video,” Onanuga stated.
The rumours appear to have originated from a viral video circulating on social media platforms, which falsely claimed an arrest had taken place within the presidential villa’s kitchen staff over an alleged poisoning plot.
The Presidency emphasised that no such incident has occurred and warned against the spread of unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic or damage public trust.
President Tinubu continues to carry out his official duties without any reported security breach related to the claims.
Authorities have not provided further details on the origin of the video, but the swift rebuttal from the Presidency aims to put an end to the speculation.
This is not the first time false narratives targeting the President or the villa have surfaced online, highlighting ongoing challenges with misinformation in the digital space.
