Presidency don’t influence our operations-ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said that the presidency do not influence it’s operations.

Mr Bello Bakori, Commissioner in charge of Adamawa, Taraba and Borno made the clarification on Tuesday at a Town Hall meeting tagged’ My constituency, my project’ held in Jalingo.

Our correspondent reports that the meeting was organised by the ICPC in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

Bakori said that the commission has carried numerous investigations and prosecutions of many cases within the zone.

He announced that the commission was investigating 50 cases in the zone.
He urged the public to report any corruption case to the office.
He, said that the powers of the commission were to investigate and prosecute offenders, adding that sentencing was at the discretion of the court.

He however, lamented the delay in the dispensation of cases in the courts.
According to him, we have cases pending in courts that have last for over 10 years.

Bakori advised community leaders to monitor projects that were cited within their domains.

He said that such would eradicate the menace of abandoned projects.
He assured the public that the commission was ready to investigate and prosecute any offender who was cought.

The commissioner announced that any politician that would put his name on a project executed by the government is impersonation and would be held liable.
Earlier, Mr Mbakiye Nyama, State Director of NOA stressed the need to include community leaders in the execution of community projects.

Nyama said that the funds meant for constituency projects were public funds, intended to address infrastructural challenges of communities.

He advised community members to monitor projects situated in their communities.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the meeting was attended by youth groups, women groups, religious leaders, traditional rulers, media representatives among others.
