President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has arrived in Rome to participate in the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Meeting, aimed at addressing the escalating security crisis in West Africa.
The summit, co-chaired by Jordan and Italy, brings together African leaders, defense, and intelligence chiefs to enhance regional and global counter-terrorism efforts.
Upon his arrival, President Tinubu was greeted by a delegation of Nigerian officials and Italian counterparts, underscoring the significance of Nigeria’s role in the discussions. The Aqaba Process focuses on strengthening cooperation to combat terrorism, a pressing issue exacerbated by recent political instability in the region, including the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS.
The forum aims to foster dialogue and strategic partnerships to mitigate threats and stabilize the region. President Tinubu’s attendance highlights Nigeria’s commitment to regional security and its influence in international counter-terrorism initiatives.
The summit also addresses broader challenges, such as cyber defense and crisis management, aligning with NATO’s ongoing efforts in similar domains.
