Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education has announced a groundbreaking update to the basic education curriculum, set to commence in January 2025. The new curriculum will incorporate vocational skills to equip students with practical knowledge and enhance their employability.
According to Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, the goal is for students to acquire at least two skills by the time they finish school, enabling them to lead productive lives. This innovative approach is part of the National Skills Framework, a comprehensive project affecting all schools in Nigeria, both public and private.
The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) developed the curriculum, providing opportunities for students to study various subjects from junior to senior secondary schools. This update aims to address challenges facing Nigeria’s education sector, including access to quality learning and the digital divide.
