….gives two weeks ultimatum else PDP will be a forgotten Party
A pro-People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North under the banner of Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) has embarked on a campaign creating awareness of the one-party system the PDP leadership is tilting Nigeria into.
The President of the group, Comrade Afiyo Elliot addressed journalists in Markudi, Benue State and lamented that a few individuals because of their political inordinate ambitions are manipulating and gearing PDP towards a one-party system which is inimical to the survival of Democracy in the country.
Afiyo said to this end the group does not have any other option than to call on the Acting National Chairman of the PDP Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagunis to resign within two weeks, and be suspended or removed by the National Working Committee (NWC) or the NEC respectively.
According to him the Reports they are receiving and the outcome of their meetings with the Stakeholders is that if any of these measures are not taken within two weeks, PDP will be a forgotten Party and Nigerians should brace up for the one-party system with its consequences thereafter.
“We call on the critical Stakeholders of PDP from the–Central geopolitical Zone, as a matter of urgency, to rise up and demand for the office of the National Chairman of the Party to assuage the dissenting and offended Members who are dejected and disappointed because of the lopsided and unjustified occupation and retention of Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagun as the Acting National Chairman for almost a Year.
“Consequently, we have been engaging the political stakeholders especially those in the PDP to rise up and correct these political dangerous intrigues by some inordinate members,.” Afiyo said
He said their visit to Benue State is to wider up their consultation process
towards addressing the danger signals emanating from the unexpected political
intrigues from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), considering it a danger signal if not properly checked and curtailed, it may lead to the collapse of Democracy in in Nigeria.
“Though politics cannot be separated or detached from scheming and manipulations, however, they should not be prioritized above the collective
national interest. In this regard, we decide to engage in this enlightenment
campaign and awareness ttotockmate and stop this evil trend.” He said
Afiyo however commended the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP especially the
Chairman, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator A. Wabara who according to him is an advocate and strong believer in justice and fairness.
“We are appealing to the Governors’ Forum of the PDP to join the Train to salvage the Party. And we want to state clearly that the NYLF will do everything possible within the confines of the law to continue to fight against all means and ways that may lead us to –a one-party state. This is our standpoint and there is no going back.” Afiyo added
