Supporters of Professor Matoh Dogara have issued a strong rebuttal against accusations of political betrayal levelled against him in the build-up to the 2027 elections in Lere West Constituency, Kaduna State.
In a detailed statement made available to journalists, a prominent statesman and indigene of Gure community in Lere Local Government Area, who pleaded anonymity, described the allegations as unfounded and an attempt at “political crucifixion” of a man of “impeachable character.”
The statement, titled “RE: LERE WEST 2027 – THE HYPOCRISY OF POLITICAL BETRAYAL,” sought to set the record straight on several claims concerning events in 2003, 2007, and 2023.
The statement chronicled Professor Dogara’s impressive academic journey, noting that he topped his class from primary school at L.E.A. Garun-Kurama through Tafawa Balewa Memorial College, Samaru Kataf.
He graduated as the best final-year student in Physics from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1989.
He has taught at secondary school, college of education, polytechnic, and ABU levels, often invited without formal applications.
Dogara boasts over 50 local and international publications, including a widely referenced professional book on Geosciences.
He currently serves as a Professor of Applied Geophysics, Member of the ABU Governing Council, and Member of the Council of The Progressive Institute.
His political journey dates back to the UNCP, DPN, and GDM eras. He has served as Interim Chairman of Lere LGA, Secretary of Kubau LGA, Commissioner for Science and Technology, Special Adviser on Renewable Energy, and later as Member and Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Addressing specific claims:
2003: The statement clarified that Professor Dogara was appointed Commissioner following the death of Barr. Musa Shekarau. It maintained that he holds the late Shekarau in high esteem and enjoys continued cordial relations with his family.
2007: It denied any betrayal of family or faith, stating there was a prior understanding and consensus at the late Shekarau’s graveside to support Dogara’s political aspiration. The statement added that Dogara accepted defeat in the primary, publicly celebrated the winner, and personally sponsored a Gure candidate who performed well in his ward.
2023: The response asserted that Dogara’s political structure fully supported Zik’s emergence as PDP candidate during the primaries. It further claimed Dogara recommended Zik for a Commissioner position when another preferred candidate was unavailable due to ill health.
On current politics, the statement said Professor Dogara has consistently advocated for any qualified candidate from the Kabilus for the Lere West seat during stakeholders’ meetings.
It defended his role in a recent meeting at Musa Tugga’s residence, where he was unanimously chosen as co-chairman.
The statement described Professor Dogara as one of the most accomplished political figures in Lere LGA, credited with attracting significant developmental projects to his area of influence. It also defended his son, Caesar Dogara, describing him as a respectful, hardworking young man focused on his destiny.
“Those calling Matoh all names should note that he is not playing the kind of local politics many are into. God has blessed him and he is very grateful to God and humble to a fault,” the statement concluded.
