ENGR. RAYMOND ANTHONY ALEOGHO DOKPESI PhD, DSc, FNSE, OFR
Engr Aleogho Dokpesi was born on the 25th of October 1951 in Ibadan, Oyo State. He hails from Agenebode in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
He attended Loyola College; Ibadan, Immaculate Conception College, Benin City. In 1969, he proceeded to Poland for his University Education at Wyzsaza Szkota Morska Gdynia and the University of Gdansk Sopot for his Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate Degree respectively. He graduated with a Frist Class Degree in Marine Transport Engineering and was the best graduating Student in fifty years in the University/Poland.
While in Poland, he was a University Lecturer and the President of African Students Union. Upon returning to Nigeria on the invitation of the then Nigerian Military Head of State – Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo in 1977, he worked with the Federal Ministry of Transport before venturing into the private sector where he became the first Managing Director of the first indigenous shipping line – African Ocean Line and later he established Baldock Shipping Line.
He pioneered the first Independent Radio Station – RayPower FM in 1993/1994 and the first Global Satellite Television Station – Africa Independent Television (AIT) in Nigeria in 1996. He also established an indigenous Radio Station – FAAJI FM in 2012. Both RayPower FM and Africa Independent Television (AIT) are Pan Nigerian Broadcast Stations provided/providing jobs for thousands of Nigerians and foreigners directly and in form of: Independent Producers, Content Providers, Consultants, Contractors and others. .
He is a Fellow of: the Nigeria Society of Engineers (2019), Automotive and Locomotive Engineers Institute (2019), Chartered Institute of Transport (1991), Nigerian Institute of Management (1992), Nigeria Institute of Shipping (1989), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (1988) and the Institute of Transport Administration UK (1985).
Engr. Dokpesi personifies philanthropy per excellence. His philanthropic philosophy in life is “the good of each one of us is for the greatness of all of us”. This pact with humanity he glowingly implemented by: funding the education of several indigent relatives, Staff of DAAR Communications, their wards and that of some unknown persons. He provided the very first borehole water for the Ilapo-Alagbado Community upon the establishment of RayPower FM in 1993/1994. He equally electrified and constructed the initial road from Kola Bus-stop. He made personal donations at various times to: Ijamido Orphanage, in Ogun State, Old Peoples’ Home in Yaba, Jesse Fire Victims, the Ikeja Bomb Blast Victims, donated operational vehicles to Agenebode Police Division and presently the AIT Scholarship Scheme are just a few of his philanthropic gestures.
In the last two decades, Engr. Dokpesi has dedicated substantial airtime on AIT to the medical cause of countless Nigerians who have serious medical challenges but are unable to fund their treatments.
The Nigerian Music and Nollywood which have both evolved into becoming global phenomenon were the products of Engr. Dokpesi’s foresightedness, tenacity and uncommon patriotism.
In recognition of his several patriotic roles and contribution to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Academic Publications, Broadcasting, Sports, the growth of the Nigerian Entertainment – Music and Nollywood and Entrepreneurship, he was conferred with a National Honour of the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 2008.
