The Police attached to the office of Adamawa State Governor, Rt Hon Ahmadu Fintiri were accused to have rough handled some members of the correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The Correspondents’ Chapel in a Press Release alleged that two of its members were manhandled by the order of the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou.
The statement which was co-signed by the chapel’s chairman and Secretary, Mr Daji Sani and Alao Onimisi respectively said the chapel hence forth will not give a media coverage for any of the government activities including the media chat slated for Friday.
“Consequently, the correspondents’ chapel resolved at an emergency Congress Thursday afternoon to boycott the media chat slated for Friday and other activities regarding the ongoing projects commission exercise of the Adamawa state Government.” The statement read
According to the Press Release the incidence happened today (Thursday) when the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel wanted to seek audience with the Governor of Sokoto State, Rt Hon Aminu Tambuwal at the Yola International Airport’s Presidential lodge who commissioned road project in Yola
“Radio Phineas of the Nigerian Pilot suffered the most in the hands of the policemen who slapped him and dragged him around. The Car of Emmanuel Samuel of the point Newspaper was damaged after the security personnel attacked him and three other members with him in the car.
” The chapel demand unreserved apology from the Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou for the unfortunate directives.” The statement further read.
