Angry youths on Tuesday stormed the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital, to protest the killing of a student by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a policeman.
The student, said to be a candidate in the ongoing West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was allegedly hit by the stay bullet around Gbagi market road in the early hours of Tuesday.
Eye witnesses said the student was on his way to write the examination in company with his sibling and father in their car when the incident occurred.
The stray bullet was allegedly fired by a police officer pursuing a suspect.
The student was immediately rushed to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
This development prompted some angry residents, who immediately took to the streets to protest the killing of the student.
The protesters took the student’s lifeless body to the Oyo State Government Secretariat, urging Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene.
