The Conscience of Yoruba Nation, an affiliate of Afenifere, has vowed resist any plan or attempt to truncate the democratically elected government of President Bola Tinubu or its sub-national entities under any guise.
The group, in a statement by its convener, Abagun Kole Omololu, said it had earlier pleaded with the conveners and mobilizers of the nationwide protests to call off the protest to foil the plan of criminal political actors to exploit it to foment trouble.
According to him, the call for military intervention and the hoisting of a foreign flag by some elements in some cities in the North confirmed their fear and suspicion that certain rogue politicians had planned to take advantage of the protests to destabilize a democratically elected government and plunge Nigeria into serious internal crises.
The group stressed that it will never accept or resist any attempt to truncate the democratically elected government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or its sub-national entities under any guise, citing the Yoruba people’s history of not promoting rebellion against a constitutional regime.
Omololu condemned the subversive act of hoisting a foreign flag in the North, seeing it as an attempt to invite foreign powers to overrun the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and threaten the country’s existence.
The group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for protecting Nigerians’ right to assemble freely and associate with other persons, as guaranteed by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
Omololu challenged the security agencies to duly investigate all incidents of violence, unearth the masterminds of violent acts, and serve them justice, while commiserating with families who lost their loved ones in the few unfortunate incidents of violence in some parts of the federation.
