48 hours after tanker drivers blocked Zaria-Kano Highway over the alleged killing of their colleague by a soldier, they have agreed to reopen the road on Saturday.

News Point Nigeria gathered that the protesting tanker drivers who used their heavy vehicles to block the busy highway agreed to remove them after series of negotiations with security agencies and FRSC officials.

The incident happaned on Wednesday shortly after a soldier attached to a construction company reportedly shot the victim following an altercation near Tashar Yari in Makarfi town along the highway, leading to a gridlock that got many travellers stranded.

The drivers blocked the road to demand justice for the victim’s family.

Confirming the reopening of the road on Saturday morning, the State Acting Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lawal Garba, said normalcy had returned.

“I’m happy to inform you this morning that the Zaria-Kano Highway was reopened around 9:30am today after days of blockage. Traffic flow is smooth as the road is fully open. Personnel of the Command are in traffic control,” he said.

The state police command had ordered for the full scale investigation into the killing of the driver by the soldier.
