RCCG Defends Adeboye Over Viral Protest Claim

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye, participated in a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the reports as false and misleading.

In a statement released through its official public relations handle on X, the church said a photograph being shared online showing Pastor Adeboye holding a placard has been deliberately taken out of context to promote a false narrative.

According to RCCG, the image was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk organized in response to a directive by the Christian Association of Nigeria during the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The church explained that the walk was held by churches across the country to draw attention to the persistent killings of Christians and to urge the government to take stronger measures to protect lives and property.

“It was neither organized against President Jonathan nor connected in any way to his administration,” the statement said.

RCCG noted that although the event received media coverage when it took place, some of the photographs have resurfaced years later and are now being falsely presented as evidence of a protest against a different government.

The church acknowledged that Nigeria is facing significant challenges and that citizens have the right to demand solutions from those in authority. However, it described calls for Pastor Adeboye to direct the President or the First Lady on how to govern the country as unrealistic.

According to the statement, Pastor Adeboye does not hold any political office and was not elected into government, stressing that neither he nor RCCG should be held responsible for the nation’s current challenges.

“Pastor Adeboye cannot command the President or the First Lady on how to govern Nigeria. RCCG is not a political party, and Pastor Adeboye is not responsible for the affairs of government,” the church stated.

RCCG further emphasized that it is not affiliated with any political party and should not be regarded as the religious arm of any political organization in the country.

The church urged the public to verify information before sharing it and to avoid spreading misleading content capable of creating confusion or misrepresenting facts.
