RE: Association Threatens Shutdown in Anambra State Over Heavy Taxation

Press Statement

1. The attention of the National Executive council of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria RTEAN has been drawn to publication circulating on some online Newspapers attributed to Anambra State Chairman of RTEAN and Deputy State Chairman of TUC Amb. Chinedu Nwabueze threatened to shut down the services of the Association in the state if State Government does not consider its heavy taxation on transporters,

2. In a press statement issued by the RTEAN National Headquarters in Abuja signed by its Association Deputy National President Administration Amb. Muhammad Abubakar Bishara expressed disatisfaction over the so called press conference by Mr. Nwabueze which does not reflect the modus operadi of the Association under Article 5(d) ,6A2(f-i) and article 12(e) that stated only National Executive of the RTEAN has legal and moral justification to make such a decision

3. The statement added that Anambra State Chairman of RTEAN Amb. Chinedu Nwabueze should have followed due process and report the matter to RTEAN National Headquarters over the alleged heavy taxation and harassment of drivers by the State Board of Internal Revenue that continues unabated inorder to use proper channels to address the issues instead of going to press to voice his angers,

4. Amb. Bishara fauted Nwabueze claimed of criticising government taxation policy saying that under any circumstances he has no moral and legal justification to act on that way without notifiying the National Headquarters who is the final arbiter on any decision of the Association,

5. He further said Nwabueze shouldn’t have given two weeks altimatum to State Government to initiate a stakeholders dialogue and address grivances and failure to resolve the issues could prompt the union to pursue appropriate measures, including service shutdowns
