The voice can be heard crying in the wilderness,but what the voice is crying out for ,or the message it is trying to deliver is the big question. Well, for all purposes some will like to say that the action of the Adamawa state House of Assembly is witch-hunting its own members.
Yes ,Abbo has a right to express his grievances and rightfully say that he does not belong to the NNPP. All that is in order and I would have applauded him for his seeming non partisan, neutral and again his seeming dispassionate stance on the issue,however the crucial issue in this case is not wether others that cross-carpeted have been punished or not.
The issue is what the law, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria says. The crux of the matter is ascertain if what the House did was constitutional or not. There is a need to clarify this issue by answering a very simple question about the position of a representative that was given a mandate on one platform and decided to abandon the party that sponsored him? Is this tenable in a democracy where the rules are categoric about the basic procedures and decorum required? Nay! If the law says such acts can be sanctioned ,then so be it.
It appears that Senator Abbo ,just like many that have decided to pitch camp against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri have set upon himself the task of demonizing him as the brain behind the suspension.
However , this errant mission will not be enough to create a bad image for the governor.
The action of the legislators can be likened to the action of a wife that divorces her husband and insist on going away with all his belongings that she found in the house. In normal climes,the legislators would have taken the honorable path of resigning before joining another party.
With all said and done,the Senator should have occupied himself with more serious issues rather involve himself in a time- wasting effort of justifying actions that the Constitution has laid down sanctions for, recommend that laws be effected ,rather than making excuses for people that want to eat their cake and have.
In conclusion,if Justice must take its course,the law must be respected. In the absence of the law there can be no Justice.
