Relume foundation donates N300m medical facilities to Yobe LGA

The Relume Charitable Foundation and its partners have on Thursday donated a standard primary healthcare centre worth N300 million to Fika Local Government Area of Yobe.

The project was jointly sponsored by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC ) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

Inaugurating the facility in Fika, Gov. Mai Mala-Buni of the state said it would enhance access to healthcare services in the remote area.

He noted that the project was in line with his government’s vision to build one primary healthcare centre in each of the 178 wards across the state.

Mala-Buni, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr Hamidu Alhaji, said already 53 health facilities were undergoing renovation and remodeling.

The governor charged pregnant women to ensure they patronize the facility in order to reduce cases of stillbirth in the area.

He thanked the foundation and its partners for the project and appealed for the establishment of similar centre in other parts of the state.

Dr Ipoade Omilaju, the SPDC Representative, said SPDC and NNPC had spent about 300 million for the intervention project.

He said the objective of the project was to provide sucour to numerous insurgency victims taking shelter in the area.

Omilaju said although the facility was a primary health care centre, the state-of-the-art equipment in it were similar to those found in secondary healthcare centres.

The Project Co-ordinator, Mr David Aitanum, said the foundation had provided capacity building to health workers who would run the centre.

He said the centre comprised of matron office, pharmacy, males and females wards, emergency room, two consulting rooms, admin and account rooms, antenatal, operation, and record and file rooms.
