Resurgent Violence Rocks Bachama Kingdom as Bwatiye Group Demands Firm Govt Action

The long-running crisis between the Tsobo community and sections of the Bwatiye (Bachama) communities in the Bachama Kingdom has escalated to a dangerous new level, prompting a strong call for decisive enforcement and accountability from the Pene Da Bwatiye Development Association (PDBDA).

In a strongly worded press release, the group condemned persistent attacks on Bwatiye settlements, which have resulted in loss of lives, arson, and widespread destruction of property since the initial outbreak in July 2025.

Despite repeated government interventions and several peace initiatives, the violence has resurged with deadly assaults, including coordinated attacks on Waduku and Tingno on April 12 and 16, 2026 respectively.

The PDBDA accused key actors within the Tsobo community of showing blatant contempt for lawful authority and repeatedly taking the law into their own hands.

The group highlighted government’s good-faith efforts at dialogue, noting that on April 15, 2026, the Adamawa State Government secured commitments from Tsobo elders for a peaceful resolution, including an agreement to attend a follow-up peace meeting at the Palace of the Hama Bachama.

Subsequently, on April 17, the Governor met with His Royal Majesty the Hama Bachama to consolidate peace efforts. In a show of good faith, the Tsobo elders wrote requesting a courtesy visit to reconcile and mend relations.

His Royal Majesty convened his council and expressed readiness to receive the delegation, with the state government providing all necessary logistics and security arrangements.

However, the Tsobo delegation failed to appear, offering no explanation and effectively derailing the critical peace process.

The PDBDA described the action as a deliberate and provocative disregard for constituted authority and the traditional institution.

The group pointed to a consistent pattern of defiance, including an earlier incident at Government House where the Tsobo youth leader openly confronted the Governor and members of the State Executive Council.

Secretary of the Pene Da Bwatiye Development Association, Pwakavi Emmanuel Bapetu, stated that the Bwatiye Nation has exercised remarkable restraint in the face of persistent provocations but warned that such tolerance must not be mistaken for weakness.

“The continued disrespect directed at His Royal Majesty and the Bwatiye people is unacceptable and dangerously destabilising,” the statement read. “This pattern of behaviour undermines peace efforts and emboldens further violations.”

The group insisted that the time for tentative measures has passed, urging the Adamawa State Government to act decisively by immediately arresting and investigating the entire Executive of the Tsobo National Association and all persons identified as orchestrating the conflict.

It further called for the restoration of order, enforcement of accountability, and the immediate institution of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate and punish those responsible for the agitation.

The PDBDA emphasised that the Bwatiye people remain committed to peace but will not allow their desire for harmony to be taken as a sign of weakness. It warned that failure to impose firm, lawful consequences would only deepen instability in the region.

The resurgent crisis in Lamurde Local Government Area has continued to cause concern among residents and stakeholders, with multiple peace accords signed in the past failing to bring lasting calm to the two communities.

Security agencies have been urged to restore normalcy while ensuring justice is served to end the cycle of impunity.
