The pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu has expressed deep shock over the death of Yola foremost Islamic scholar, Modibbo Ahmadu Danburam.
The Islamic scholar reportedly died in the wee hours of Friday at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) after a brief illness at 95.
He was survived by 3 wives, 19 children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Expressing deep sorrow over the death of the nonagenarian, Ribadu said the death of Danburam has led to the manifestation of a deep cleavage that will be difficult to fill saying that it will take a whole generation to produce people with piety, depth of knowledge and contentment like Danburam.
Ribadu who described the late scholar as austere, puritanical, morally strict and religiously effacing, said, he has lost a father and a confidant.
“Adamawa State and Nigeria has lost one of the most disciplined scholars whose austere lifestyle is worthwhile.
“He was a close confidante of my late father and my uncles. He is more of a father to us the Ribadu family.
He dedicated his whole life reading Quran and Islamic jurisprudence and teaching at the same time.
“His quest for Islamic knowledge took him to Sokoto, Zaria, Kano and many northern cities. Modibbo Ahmadu thought Islamic knowledge for over 70 years .
” Last year when I visited him after praying for me he gave me unforgettable counsel.
“Most Adamawa people believe that Modibbo Ahmadu Danburam is a Saint.
“He is one person who never gives a hoot about worldly things and had no time for anything untoward.
“He is one person who was celebrated even when alive unlike most people who are celebrated when they die. May Allah reserve a special place for him in his majestic paradise,” Ribadu prayed.
