Rights Group Drags Police to Court Over Matawalle’s Alleged Ties to Banditry

Kaduna Human Rights Association Seeks Judicial Review Against Police Over Minister's Alleged Involvement in Banditry

The Kaduna Human Rights Association, a registered Civil Society Organization promoting good governance and the rule of law, has filed a Motion Exparte seeking judicial review to compel the Nigeria Police Force and Inspector General of Police to investigate Minister of State for Defence, Alh. Bello Matawalle, over alleged criminal conspiracy in banditry.

The association’s action follows Zamfara State Governor’s allegations against Matawalle, prompting a request for investigation. However, the police failed to act within the specified time.

The Plaintiff argues that the Police Act mandates the police to investigate crimes and report findings to the Attorney General. The association believes granting the application is crucial in upholding the rule of law and preventing lawlessness.
