In a surprising turn of events, members of the former Rivers State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 general elections have thrown their support behind the presidency of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group, while affirming their allegiance to Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara, emphasized their commitment to Tinubu’s leadership.

During a press conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the former director-general of PDP’s campaign council, articulated the group’s decision, stating, “We stand by that verdict,” in reference to Tinubu’s election as president.

He further expressed their endorsement of Tinubu’s agenda, citing the need for unity and progress in Nigeria.

Sekibo also highlighted the group’s unwavering support for Governor Fubara, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the state and federal leadership for the advancement of Rivers people.

However, amidst the declarations of support, concerns were raised about the actions of certain individuals perceived to be undermining the peace and stability of Rivers State.

Sekibo condemned these actions, particularly targeting a figure whom he accused of attempting to destabilize the state and disrespecting former Governor Peter Odili and his wife.

Furthermore, the former secretary to the state government cautioned President Tinubu about appointees with questionable records, urging vigilance in overseeing the Federal Capital Territory administration.

Prince Uche Secondus, the former national chairman of the PDP, echoed the sentiment of support for Governor Fubara, assuring that the party would rally behind him for a second term in 2027, despite present challenges.

He emphasized Fubara’s pivotal role as the leader of the party in the state.

The press conference witnessed the presence of prominent figures such as former Governor Celestine Omehia, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Rt Hon Austin Opara, among others, reaffirming the solidarity within the former Rivers State PDP members.

As the political landscape in Rivers State takes an unexpected turn, the ramifications of this alliance and its impact on the state’s governance remain to be seen.
