The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria has taken a bold step towards reducing road crashes by 50% in Nigeria. In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation and stakeholders, RTEAN is implementing the Pre and Post-Crash Initiative for the Road Transportation Sector. This initiative aims to provide quick attention to accident victims and reduce road traffic crashes, which claim thousands of lives annually in Nigeria.

According to RTEAN President, Musa Maitakobi, and National Secretary, Comrade Yusuf Adeniyi, this directive aligns with the United Nations Decade of Action of Road Safety 2021-2030. The goal is to reduce deaths from road traffic crashes by 50% before 2030.
The initiative requires all commercial transport vehicles to register and acquire standardized vehicle First Aid Kits. This will enable first responders to attend to accident victims before emergency services arrive. Additionally, registered vehicles will have death benefit coverage of N1.5 million and medical and emergency treatment coverage of N1 million for each occupant.
RTEAN is partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police Force, and Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO) to ensure compliance

This move is crucial, as Nigeria’s road traffic crashes have devastating consequences. The World Health Organization reports that 1.19 million people die annually from road crashes worldwide, with low- and middle-income countries disproportionately affected.
RTEAN hopes to protect passengers and commuters, ultimately reducing road crashes and fatalities in Nigeria
There would also be death benefit or permanent disability covered 1.5 each of the occupant of the vehicle of the registered vehicle while medical and emergency treatment covered 1 million Naira for each of the registered vehicles
