Over twenty Adamawa State indigenes studying in Sudan who were trapped in the political turmoil in the country have appealed to Government to urgently evacuate them from the war torn country.
The students in a letter captioned “Request to save your children’s lives” have expressed concerned about the delay in the evacuation process.
According to them, out of the 40 buses sent by the Federal Government, only 13 buses had arrived as at 25th April 2023, leaving the majority of them stranded with their safety at risk without knowing their fate.
The letter reads in part: “We are pleading with the Adamawa State government to intervene in this matter as soon as possible, and provide us with the necessary support to return home safely.”
“We appeal to your compassion and sense of duty towards us as citizens of Adamawa State, who are in between life and death which counts every seconds.”
“We urge you to take swift action in facilitating our evacuation from Sudan, and bring us back home safely.”
“It has come to our attention that the federal government said 1.2m dollars was sent for our evacuation on the 24th April that all Nigerians in Sudan will be evacuated on the 25th of April, which is extremely disheartening that’s it was only $400,000 that was sent which was paid for the 13 buses that took off to Egypt.”
