SDP Presidential Candidate Adewole Adebayo: Tinubu Has A1 in Politics, F9 in Governance

Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, accusing him of excelling in political maneuvering while failing dismally in governance.

Adebayo described Tinubu as having an “A1 in politics” but an “F9 in governance,” highlighting the administration’s inability to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic challenges.

“If he cannot save lives in Benue, Plateau, and many parts of the country, then he has failed,” Adebayo declared, pointing to the persistent banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes that have claimed countless lives.

He accused Tinubu of prioritizing political control over effective governance, alleging that the president assumes Nigerians are apathetic about politics and that capturing institutions and politicians would eliminate opposition. “Real opposition will come from the people, who are hungry and insecure,” Adebayo warned.

Adebayo’s remarks come amid growing public discontent over rising inflation, unemployment, and the government’s handling of security crises. He criticized Tinubu’s administration for lacking a coherent strategy to tackle these issues, arguing that political victories mean little when citizens are suffering.

“Politics is a tool for governance, not an end in itself. Tinubu’s mastery of politics is useless if it doesn’t translate to better lives for Nigerians,” he said.

The SDP leader also called for a united front among opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections, urging them to adopt the SDP’s platform. He referenced ongoing discussions about coalitions, including the controversial registration of the African Democratic Alliance (ADA), but emphasized that any alliance must prioritize the welfare of Nigerians over political expediency.

However, APC spokespersons dismissed the critique as “opportunistic,” insisting that Tinubu’s reforms are laying the foundation for long-term progress. “The president is tackling decades-old challenges with bold policies. Results take time,” said APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

As Nigeria grapples with its complex challenges, Adebayo’s remarks have reignited debates about the balance between political strategy and effective leadership. With the 2027 elections looming, his call for a people-driven opposition signals a potential shift in the country’s political landscape.
