Victims of flood disasters in the last rainy seasons of Adamawa Southern Senatorial zone,comprises of Demsa,Numan,Shelleng,Guyuk and Lamurde LGAs has showered encomiums of thanks and praises to Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe.
You may recall that Yaroe raised a motion of public important presented at the Floor of the National Assembly attracted the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to share relief materials in the ravamped communities by the 2019 flooda disaster.
In the wake of the flood disaster which affected nine local governments across Adamawa central and Adamawa south senatorial districts, NEMA has distributed relief package to only the four local governments of Adamawa central senatorial zone.
The local governments are; Fufore, Yola south, Yola north and Girei.
Decrying the neglect of his senatorial zone in the distribution of the relief package, under matters of urgent public importance, Yaroe had accused NEMA of deliberately sidelining his constituency and called for an urgent redress.
“The senate knows that a major flood disaster occurred in October 2019 as a result of release of excess water by the authorities of Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
” NEMA distributes relief materials in Fufore, Yola South, Yola North and Girei local governments and knows that same intervention was not extended to other local governments along river Benue equally affected by the disaster.
“The senate drew the attention of the Director General of NEMA to provide relief materials to the four local governments. Nothing has been done to date,” Yaroe had said.
He called on the Senate to as a matter of urgency carry out its resolutions on NEMA on the matter noting that the senate has already resolved to ask NEMA to implement a response programme for the victims of flood disaster in communities of the local governments and to direct senate committee on special duties, ecology and environment to investigate the effectiveness of NEMA in disaster response in 2019.
During the flag-off of distribution of the relief materials in Demsa local government today, head of the agency’s operation in Adamawa/Taraba, Mr. Abani Garki also commended the senator and other stakeholders for the role they played at ensuring the accrual of the relief package to the people.
“I must commend the senator, traditional rulers and all elected representatives for ensuring that the relief materials are made available,” he said.
Garki noted that 700 households would benefit from the five affected councils.
Garki listed Guyuk, Shelleng, Demsa, Mayo-Belwa and Ganye as benefiting councils from the intervention support.
Items distributed include; 418 bags of rice, 400 bags of maize, 1500 mats, 250 bundles of zinc, 1500 brocades materials, 800 mattresses and 650 bags of cements.
Other items are 800 blankets, 465 bags of nails , 700 ceiling board, 800 mosquitos nets, 20 jerrycans of coking oil, salt among others.
He lauded the federal government support towards restoration of livelihood, while commiserating at the same with victims, over the unfortunate incident.
According to him, similar intervention was distributed to 644 households in Kodomun, Kadiri, Old Demsa and Guwun communities.
Earlier, Murum Mbula, Jerome Fwa represented by Chief Johnson Ajiya , lauded the gesture and urged for more in-view of the number of people affected by the flood.
Lyn Fwa who spoke on behalf of beneficiaries, thanked the senator as well as others who help in one way or the other towards ensuring the accrual of the materials.
Tinah Thomas who represented Sen Binos Yaroe also lauded the lawmaker for facilitating the relief material for his constituency adding that through the gesture, he has shown loyalty, patriotism and concern to his people.
She told NEMA to expect more of such requests whenever the people of the constituency are distressed.
