Sen. Ishaku Abbo: A blend of courage, tolerance and exceptional brilliance

Without hedging, Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo, has over the years stand tall as a personification of humanity, courage, resilience and superb brilliance.

Abbo whose representation of Adamawa North Senatorial zone from 2019 to 2023 was marked by unprecedented political and human development made himself a reference point in Nigeria’s contemporary politics due to his outstanding contributions to debates, hard-work, resilience and courage to tell truth to power.

These noble attributes which he possessed in ample doses made him a shining example of youth in governance. They also made him a subject of vilification by enemies of democracy who in a fit of rage wanted to bring him down at all costs for his superlative, courageous and peoples centric representation.

A man of conviction, Abbo is never shy of taking the bullet on behalf and for the benefit his people, and in doing so he gained their trust and confidence to the extent his words carry the weight of the law. That is why he has over the years became a thorn in the flesh of his adversaries and political opponents.

Abbo who started from a humble beginning in the rustic village of Muchala in Mubi North local government area of Adamawa State has through dint of hard-work, resilience, loyalty to the people an and overarching humility and purposeful leadership, made himself the most inspiring political figure not only in Adamawa North but Adamawa State in general.

A man of immense clout, political pedigree and impressive leadership acumen, Senator Abbo is the man to beat any time, anywhere. That is why the clarion call on Abbo to join the gubernatorial contest come 2027 has started ruffling feathers in opposition quarters.

In the lead to the 2023 general election, Abbo who exuberantly predicted a landslide victory for himself in Adamawa North Senatorial election, probed that his statement was not a futile ranting, as he walked his talk by securing an overwhelming electoral victory on the alter of his popularity and covenance with the people. But faced with the ignominy of that humiliating defeat, his adversaries were forced to get undeserved victory through the fiat of the courts.

Throughout his tenure, Senator Abbo demonstrated a profound commitment to humanitarian causes, focusing on initiatives that aimed to uplift and transform the lives of his constituents.

Abbo has during his sojourn as the elected senator representing Adamawa North invested heavily in education because of his belief in the fact that education is the cornerstone for societal development.

He facilitated the renovation of dilapidated school structures, ensuring that students had a conducive learning environment. Additionally, he provided scholarships to underprivileged students, enabling them to pursue higher education without the burden of financial constraints.

These efforts not only increased school enrollment rates but also reduced dropout rates in the senatorial district. In the same vein, he ensured that his constituents enjoy access to quality healthcare. In doing so, he organized medical outreach programs that offered free health check-ups, treatments, and essential medications to rural communities lacking adequate healthcare facilities.

Recognizing the challenges faced by pregnant women in accessing maternal care, he established maternal health centers equipped with necessary medical supplies and trained personnel, significantly reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the region.

Also in his unwavering effort to combat unemployment and stimulate economic growth, Senator Abbo initiated various skill acquisition programs. These programs targeted youths and women, teaching them vocational skills such as tailoring, carpentry, and agriculture. Upon completion, participants received starter kits and financial support to establish their businesses, promoting self-reliance and reducing poverty levels.

Furthermore, he facilitated micro-credit schemes that provided soft loans to small-scale entrepreneurs, enabling them to expand their businesses and contribute to the local economy.

In an audacious move to address infrastructural deficit especially considering the onslaught of Boko Haram insurgency in his senatorial zone, the senator facilitated and championed the construction and rehabilitation of roads, improving connectivity between rural and urban areas.

This move not only facilitated the movement of goods and people but also enhanced access to markets, education, and healthcare facilities. Additionally, he provided clean water to every nook and cranny of his constituency by installing boreholes in communities plagued by water scarcity, thereby reducing water-borne diseases and improving the quality of life. As I have validated earlier, Senator Abbo was vocal about social justice, advocating for the rights of the marginalized and vulnerable populations.

He supported legislation aimed at protecting the rights of women and children, ensuring they had access to education, healthcare, and legal protection against abuses. His advocacy extended to the fight against drug abuse, where he collaborated with non-governmental organizations to raise awareness and rehabilitate affected individuals.

Abbo has lately shamed his traducers who were hell bent in projecting him as a religious bigot by not only being part of an Islamic contest in Demsa local government, but by donating handsomely to the winners of the event. In so doing, he deconstructed the religious label unfairly attributed to him. He has also showcased his tolerance through the various interventions he gave towards Islamic causes in the past.

Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo’s tenure as the representative of Adamawa North Senatorial District was marked by a blend of humanitarian initiatives aimed at uplifting his constituents and personal challenges that tested his leadership. His efforts in education, healthcare, economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and social justice have left an indelible mark on the region. Despite controversies orchestrated against his person by arch rivals, the impact of his humanitarian interventions continues to resonate with the people of Adamawa North, reflecting a legacy of service and commitment to societal betterment.
