Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, has firmly affirmed that the National Assembly approved the electronic transmission of election results in the recent amendments to the Electoral Act, dismissing widespread speculation and social media claims to the contrary as misleading and unfounded.
Speaking to journalists during the flag-off of a massive free medical outreach program at the Demsa Cottage Hospital, Senator Yaroe a member of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters provided firsthand insight into the legislative process.
He emphasized his active participation in joint committee reviews, retreats, and consultations held in Abuja and Lagos, where both chambers unanimously recommended electronic transmission.
“I was part of the entire process. The joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives recommended electronic transmission, and that recommendation formed part of the final report presented to the Senate,” Yaroe stated.
He added that a subsequent ad-hoc committee reviewing grey areas reaffirmed the provision.
The senator attributed the confusion to misinterpretations and misinformation, particularly on social media platforms.
He noted that the Senate leadership, including the Senate President, has publicly confirmed the approval, with official votes and proceedings expected to provide conclusive clarity.
“People should not believe everything they read on social media. We are making progress, not going backwards,” Yaroe asserted, urging Nigerians to rely on verified information for electoral matters ahead of future polls.
The clarification came as Senator Yaroe flagged off a four-day mega free medical outreach initiative organized by his office, targeting no fewer than 15,000 patients across communities in the Adamawa South zone.
The program has mobilized 155 medical personnel from various parts of the country to deliver specialized consultations, surgeries, and treatments.
Highlighting healthcare as a cornerstone of effective leadership, Yaroe described the outreach as a continuation of his commitment to constituents who often lack access to quality medical services. He revealed that similar programs have been held in other local government areas, some repeatedly.
“One patient told us he was referred to Gombe and asked to pay N500,000. But he received free treatment today,” Yaroe shared, underscoring the life-changing impact of the initiative.
The leader of the medical team, Professor Michael Missauno, likened the outreach to bringing a full teaching hospital to Demsa.
He reported that over 5,000 patients had already registered, with more than 50 surgeries completed, and the team aims to serve over 15,000 individuals by the program’s end.
He called on other philanthropists and leaders to support such efforts, noting that no single individual can tackle all healthcare challenges alone.
Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude. Gibson Taraki, who underwent prostate surgery, and Dimas Kechale, treated for hernia, said financial barriers had prevented them from seeking care for over a year. They urged other politicians to emulate Senator Yaroe’s humanitarian approach.
The Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix B. Tangwami represented by Principal Medical Officer Dr. Mivinya Pongri commended the senator’s compassion and dedication. He conveyed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s appreciation and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to healthcare investments in infrastructure, equipment, and manpower.
Chief Tangwami praised the outreach for bridging gaps in underserved areas, providing specialized care, and complementing government preventive health efforts.
The traditional ruler of Demsa, HRM Alhamdu Gladson Teneke, also lauded the intervention, thanking Senator Yaroe and the state government for equipping health facilities and ensuring their effective use.
He described health as the foundation of a productive society and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of all beneficiaries.
Senator Yaroe’s dual focus on electoral transparency and grassroots healthcare delivery highlights his ongoing efforts to advance good governance and improve quality of life in Adamawa South.
