Sen Yaroe Officially Defects to ADC: “PDP Fractured Beyond Repair” – Letter Read on Senate Floor

Senator (Rev.) Binos Dauda Yaroe, representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, has formally completed his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

The senator’s notification of change of political party affiliation was read on the floor of the Senate today, Thursday, March 12, 2026, by the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON.

In a letter dated March 10, 2026, addressed to the Senate President, Sen. Yaroe cited the “fractured state of the Party at the national level” as the primary reason for his resignation from the PDP.

He described the PDP’s internal divisions as having reached a point of no return, prompting his subsequent formal registration as a member of the ADC.

“I write to notify your Excellency and my Distinguished Colleagues of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) basically due to the fractured state of the Party at the national level and my subsequent formal registration as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” the letter stated.

The decision, according to Sen. Yaroe, stems from a deep resolve to join hands with other patriotic Nigerians to safeguard the nation’s multi-party democracy.

He emphasized that aligning with the ADC was motivated by the need to assure both Nigerians and the international community that “Nigeria is still a multi-party democracy, and that the country has not been, and cannot be turned into a one-party dictatorship.”

The letter concluded with assurances of his highest regards and was signed by Sen. Binos Dauda Yaroe, JP, FCTI, FCA.

This development follows Sen. Yaroe’s initial resignation from the PDP in February 2026, when he publicly lamented the party’s drift toward “irreversible destruction” amid escalating national crises.

At the time, his exit dealt a blow to the PDP in Adamawa State, where he had built a strong reputation through consistent constituency service, including free medical outreaches across the nine local government areas of Adamawa South.

The move to the ADC positions Sen. Yaroe within a party gaining traction as an alternative platform for politicians disillusioned with both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recent weeks have seen multiple defections across parties, with ADC emerging as a destination for some seeking reformist or coalition-oriented politics ahead of future electoral cycles.

Sen. Yaroe’s defection adds to the fluid political realignments in the National Assembly and particularly in Adamawa, following earlier shifts including Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s move to the APC and related cabinet changes.

The senator expressed gratitude for his time in the PDP while affirming his commitment to contributing to national stability and democratic pluralism through his new affiliation.
