In his quest to enhancing the intellectual capacity of the younger generation through critical thinking and deep reasoning, Senator (Rev) Binos Dauda Yaroe saw the need to sponsor a Chess Tournament that led to various schools in Adamawa State participating.

The Senator representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District is known for his love for Chess and the advantages associated with it, hence he thought it wise to explore ways for young secondary school students to be exposed to Chess to enable them tap from the benefits related with playing Chess.

Speaking with pressmen shortly after the tournament, Senator Binos D. Yaroe said that he sponsored the tournament in order to support Vivian Ibrahim in her efforts to promoting Chess in the State, especially among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Senator Binos, who was pleased with the large turnout of various secondary school students at the competition, urged them to engage in meaningful adventures that would develop their minds positively.

Also speaking, Vivian Ibrahim, the Founder of Queenvee Chess Academy, said that Chess has shaped and reshaped her life, adding that it connects her with high profile personalities and public figures within and outside the country.

Vivian, who described Chess as a guide to life, noted that the game requires strategies and critical thinking in order to defeat an opponent.

According to her, “Chess is a game of strategy, it sharpens the brain. In Chess, you go to war with your mind. You have to be positive in your next move. One advantage of playing Chess is that people playing Chess don’t suffer from memory lose when they grow old”.

Ibrahim said that this was the third edition of the secondary schools tournament, adding that one of her objectives was to ensure children in the IDP Camp socialise with other children outside the camp.

Nugwa Timothy and Yohanna Bulus, who emerged the overall winners for female and male categories respectively, could not hide their joy when interacting with newsmen shortly after the tournament.

According to them, Chess is a game for critical thinkers and people with deep sense of reasoning and high level of strategies.

EYN IDP Camp Malko’i emerged first in the Tournament, St. Peter’s Junior Seminary and GDSS Karewa emerged second and third positions respectively.

The tournament called Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe Schools Chess Tournament, was organized by Queenvee Chess Academy and Nigeria School Sports Federation and sponsored by Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe.
