Some Workers of Adamawa state civil service who staged a peaceful protest called on President Mohammed Buhari to help them over their claims of six months unpaid salaries by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the state.
The workers who rallied round the state capital of Jimeta from Police round about to Government House holding placards and chanting “Buhari help us,pay us our salaries we are indigenes of the state” blamed the present government for stopping their salaries for no reason.
The civil servants numbering over five hundreds representing over five thousands unpaid civil servants in some of the placards indicted Governor Fintiri who do not gave them “genuine or concrete reasons to back his action.”
The inscription in one of the placard said:
“Boni employed Nyako paid,Nyako employed Fintiri sacked,Fintiri employed Bindow paid, Bindow employed Fintiri sacked and stopped six months salaries. Why only you? Enough is Enough.”
Faisal Baba,Chairman unpaid civil servants community while delivering the protest letter to the Executive Governor of the state who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Crowther Seth said the Governor has never done them well.
According to him the unpaid civil servants are facing critical economy challenges that resulted to death of three civil servants because of non payment of the six months salaries.
Faisal told the crowd at the premises of Government House in Yola that they followed due process to resolved the whole issue amicably,haven submitted letters to the office of the Chief of staff, the state house of Assembly where they House passed a resolution for the Governor to pay them but he refused.
” Most of us are passing through critical challenges,untold hardships as a result of non payment of our salaries three of our colleagues died, despite under going screening organised by the state Government,no payment of the six months salaries was done.” He said
Most of the unpaid civil servants were employed by the previous administration,while some were denied their salaries because of transfer of service done to them by the past government in the state.
In his response the Deputy Governor of the state chief Crowther Seth who received the protesters on behalf of the state Government told them that their case has already been treated by the state Government.
He assured the protesters that Governor Fintiri who is a friend of civil servants will resolve the issues as soon as he is back to the state.
Chief Crowther called on them to conduct themselves peacefully as nothing good can be achieved without peace and further advised them to be law abiding citizens.
The Chief of Staff Prof Maxwell Gidado and the SSG Ahmad were part of the government delegation that received the protesters at the Government House.
